The structure of the hammam and its insulation are determining factors for your energy consumption and comfort. Indeed, a good insulation will limit the use of the generator and thus the energy cost of your hammam.

Thus, we advise you to use the same material for the insulation and the structure: the 50 or 80 mm high density expanded polystyrene hard foam panel is a solid material that allows good heat retention in the hammam.

Thanks to its water-repellent cement coating embedded in a fibreglass weave, this material can be covered with tiles or traditional plaster.

It is a material that is easy to work with, and is very resistant to humidity and high temperatures.
You can also use traditional masonry materials (cinder block, brick, aerated concrete...) for the structure and place a 30 mm high density expanded polystyrene hard foam panel inside the hammam for thermal and hygroscopic insulation.
On the other hand, always take care to eliminate thermal bridges with special silicone gasket.

The shape of the hammam

To determine the shape of your hammam, imagine the path of a drop of water on the ceiling, on the wall or along a bench.

- The ceiling should be slightly sloping. More elegant and aesthetic, the dome or pyramid are also recommended.
- The benches and the floor must also be inclined to drain the condensation to the trap.
- The floor must be equipped with a siphon with water trap, as for a shower.< br> - You can also put an interior gutter to collect the condensation water from the ceiling, connected to the hammam drain.

Ventilation of the hammam

A good hammam ventilation is very important to breathe well and have a permanent mist in suspension in the air. In addition, the entire volume must be dried after use to avoid moisture-related inconveniences.

Thus, we advise, for domestic hammams, to leave only a space of 2 cm under the door to allow air to enter the hammam.

For the hammams receiving the public, we advise to install a hammam air extractor (VMC) of 18 m³/h per occupant, via a dedicated extractor fan, installed in the technical room, connected to a suction mouth, installed in the lower part of the hammam.

We also recommend placing a fresh air intake grille near the steam nozzle, coming from outside the building, to promote cooling and visibility of the steam. It is important that the mist extracted from the hammam is always discharged directly to the outside of the building and that any condensation in the extracted air duct is evacuated via a siphon, or to the hammam.

Heating of the hammam

To enhance the comfort of the hammam, we advise you to slightly heat the benches or the walls using an electric or hot water heating system integrated into the walls. Be careful not to overheat anyway, it is the generator that must reach the temperature set point you want, not the heating.

The lighting of the hammam must be soft and warm, resist over 60°C, saturated humidity and operate on 12V or 24V. Place a switch at the entrance of the hammam, a differential circuit breaker and a transformer in the technical room.

It is the heart of the hammam, the steam generator for hammam must be fast to heat the volume and easy to maintain. So never undersize it and prefer on the contrary a more powerful generator. Choose the solid and reliable one, considering the strong climatic constraints it is subjected to.

Also think of installing a drain in copper or galvanized steel diam 40mm to evacuate the water of deconcentration from the steam generator for hammam to the sewer.

The generator temperature sensor must be installed at eye level of a standing man.

The choice of the place of installation of the steam diffusion nozzle for hammam is very important because it is necessary to protect the users from the steam at 100°C which is extracted from it and at the same time to ensure a homogeneous temperature throughout the hammam.
We advise you to place this INOX nozzle in a not accessible niche, such as under a bench for example.
The condensates from the nozzle can be recovered and evacuated outside the hammam to the sewer or be left in the hammam where they will be evacuated via the floor drain.

The supplied steam hose for steam room is a special tube that supports very well the temperature variations in time, it must always be inclined by 10% towards a purge point.
It also contains condensation water, which can obstruct the passage of steam if the pipe forms a low point or collapses. Therefore special attention must be paid to the hose support. If a low point is to be achieved, install a condensate separator.
