I purchased this as a "piece of flair" for my home theatre, and not only was I not disappointed, I was amazed at the attention to detail, and quality of construction put into this model. Both doors open, showing a well modelled interior complete with flux-capacitor, and time machine interface. The hood opens to show what would be the "trunk" of a de-lorean (not much to see in there, but it was nice that they made it open and close) and the best part is, there is a lever on the bottom of the car that flips the wheels down into "flying mode" like at the end of BttF I, and all throughout BttF II. The entire body is Die-Cast metal and gives it a good heft. I would caution that you do NOT buy this for kids to play with, though, as there are some fine detailed pieces, like the windshield wipers, which would break of very easily in a kids hands.
Based on the quality of this model, I now plan to buy all four versions of SunStart BttF De-Loreans ! Of the four versions of this model, if you only buy one, buy THIS one. It is the only one featured in all three movies, and is the most recognizable and iconic.
This is a great model! You will not be disappointed! This was such a great model, I had the opportunity to have Christopher Lloyd himself sign it. This is a keeper -- with or without Doc Brown's signature!
the model is top notch, with everything in the right place, all down to the flux capacitor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The doors open and hood lifts and there is a lever below the car to flip the tires on their side in order to switch to flight mode. It is extremely cool to see the vehicle as a flyer. The only annoying thing is that the car comes mounted on a display base and there is no way to remove this easily. It makes the car look great on a desk, but I like my cars to sit on their tires and the delorean is lifted in the air. However, showing it off as a flying machine is perfect with this base. I am very happy
I agree with the other reviews. This is not a toy but a very well detailed collector car. The wheels are a bit flimsy but since it will only be on display they don't pose a problem and I would buy it again.
This is okay. The detail is real nice. However, the wheel broke off easily- so I returned it. It is not built heavy duty. Definitely not for little kids. Nice for the home office though. Be careful when opening. Note there is a switch to move the wheels up or down. Do not move wheel position by the wheels or they will break. Use the switch.
The Back to the Future films are probably my favorite movies, and I've seen each of them more times than I can remember. I've been in love with the DeLorean since the first time I laid eyes on it, and this miniature is no exception. I opted for this version as it seems to me to be the most iconic appearance of the time machine across all three films. The detail is quite remarkable, down to the Mr. Fusion logo, though my only real nitpick is that it uses the "OUTATIME" licence plate instead of the orange and silver barcode plate that was in place throughout the second and third films. But as the "OUTATIME" plate is probably the more famous version I can let this slide.
The only other issues was one of the sideview mirrors falling off when I took it out of the box, and the difficulty is removing it from the not so decorative "stand" it was attached to. It also seems to sit a little lopsided, probably due to the mechanism that allows the wheels to change position.
All in all, this is a very nice piece for any collector.
I chose this rating because of the quality the car shows I have not removed it from its packaging but I did inspect it .....must say very happy w product it's heavy it's solid and the detail is amazing it just needs to fly. Lol
I purchased this thinking it would make a great display item and was disappointed. The metal body is nice and most of the details are accurate. However the wheels were a big issue for me. When in the hover position they hang loose and then when they are in the regular position they do not stay in position securely and will dangle and not roll. It is a disappointment because everything else about the model is very nice.
