From the same team that made HEAVY RAIN which was really quite good, a sci fi drama thriller game with Ellen Page, Willem Dafoe and Kadeem Hardison voicing and having their bodies made to look like them in the game. And the musical score maker is none other than Hans Zimmer who's one of Hollywood's biggest composers with Inception, Gladiator and Lion King under his belt. So there certainly is no lack of talent here.

The story is pretty good, not as good as Heavy Rain a bit scattered but still good. And visually, soundwise, and everything is all pretty top notch for PS3.

The gameplay is lacking slightly, it feels a bit limited. You can't really go beyond where you are meant to go without your character turning around (even if there's technically ways it could walk) and there isn't tons you can do actionwise that you aren't meant to do, if that makes sense. Most times you get instructions of what button to push to do a command and make the story move further. So you're sort of just playing it out most of the time. And there isn't a great deal of mystery, at least not to the point that HEAVY RAIN was where there was some truly shocking moments.

You do get to make some choices in terms of how your character is supposed to react to things and then the story takes you this or that way. Allegedly there are number of ways the game can play out, but being that I've only played it through once I can't say if there's much of a different outcome if you chose to play it differently. I imagine most of the cards still fall about the same.

Saying all that, the story and the acting etc does make up for it. It's still an enjoyable ride, but you are usually perfectly able to sit and eat cereal with one hand while ocassionally picking up the controller to make an action move. It's not something that I imagine anyone would find hard. In fact I don't think I died once playing the game and had to start a scene over for that reason, and I think I died 100 times playing Battlefield 3. So the gameplay is easy even at it's hardest level (there's only 2 to pick from, "I play games often" or "I play games rarely".

There are some more action packed scenes but not an overabundance, the trickiest part to me to be honest was at times not knowing what you were supposed to do as a little kid in a flashback in a playground strolling around.

Anyways, all in all I still enjoyed it.

PS you'll need an offical ps3 controller or one with a six axis controller because ocassionally you have to move the controller around to make an action in the game. There is however an option to use an app that you can download to your phone if you don't have one and use your phone as a controller (I don't know how well it works but I believe it's still avaible for download).

I played "Heavy Rain" for PS3 (same people who created this game) and was blown away by the realistic (if somewhat creepy) facial expressions and top-notch motion capture-based animation. Sure, there were disturbing scenes (thus the M rating) and gore, but the story and visuals just took me to another world (as games should).Fast-forward to "Beyond: Two Souls". Starring Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, this action/adventure/paranormal thriller did not disappoint. The motion capture was scary realistic (Page and Dafoe were spitting images of themselves in some cases). Voice acting was superb and the story itself was somewhat original…although the game jumps back and forth through time, telling parts of the main character's story. It can be a bit jolting at first.Game play is still not as free as games like Grand Theft Auto V (it's not a large do-anything world) in terms of where you can go, and you're sort of stuck walking a certain path. You have two difficulty choices (barely gamer or experienced gamer). And the button combos and actions were similar in some ways to "Heavy Rain" controls. To be honest, this game was like an interactive movie. You choose what the main character says at critical forks in the story, and that changes how things go.The music soundtrack was epic. Music reminded me of the recurring theme used in the movie, Inception, which Ellen Page also starred in, but the moody, orchestral soundtrack really impressed me quite a bit.So why no.

Quantic Dream currently holds one of the strongest track records of any video game publisher. The product list is short but, my word, does each title deliver. I recall developing an unholy obsession with HEAVY RAIN when it came out. I felt stunned at the storytelling I had experienced and as if I needed any other reason to worship the work of David Cage, once again, I'm won over by BEYOND: TWO SOULS.MY WORD! Barriers are respectfully taken down with this tale about a girl born with parapsychological talents. To the outside observer she may seem schizophrenic, what with the swearing at air, frantic pacing, and frequent tantrums. But, much is uncovered the further you get into the game. To play BEYOND: TWO SOULS is to experience what it's really like to be an outsider. To witness children condemning your country (due to dishonest CIA assassinations), to live without a job and shelter spending the whole day trying to make just a few dollars. A bedroom full of surveillance cameras, a mind vandalized by government-issued anxiety, rejected by foster parents, haunted by visions, hunted by the police.The beauty of this story is the attachment you obtain to the main character, played incomparably by Ellen Page. To endure her psi lifestyle through the repeated parental meltdowns, vigorous CIA training, homelessness, the regular harassment of being called a witch, you will eventually succumb to feelings beyond empathy. Your living Jodie's life. You will want the absolute best for her! O.
