RYAN Tubridy has paid tribute to The Strypes after the band announced they're splitting up "effective immediately" today.
The Cavan group first appeared on the Late Late Toy Show with Tubridy at the helm, were later signed to Mercury Records and went on to tour with the Arctic Monkeys.
Ryan told The Irish Sun online: "It started on the Late Late Toy Show. The Strypes are super guys with a great sound and look.
"I say they are parking it now but whether individually, or in another group I'm sure we will see them again in some shape or form."
The band confirmed the news with a note on Twitter this morning, telling fans: "Over the past 7 years we have played in toilets and theatres, in cafes and castles, from Scotshouse to Tokyo and back again.
"We've been in bedrooms and buses, plains, trains and automobiles. We've been on telly, on radio and on record.
"It's been fun and exciting, dull and dangerous, easy, tough, frustrating, satisfying and amazing.
"It's been a life and a living. But we've decided to call time on The Strypes. Thank you all. See you in the next cartoon! Ross, Josh, Pete and Ev."
The band was made up of Pete O’Hanlon on bass, Evan Walsh on drums, Josh McClorey on guitar and Ross Farelly on vocals.
The band's representation confirmed that Pete and Evan have signed with an acting agency in London, while Josh is working on a solo record and Ross is pursuing other musical outlets.
Fans were gobsmacked after news of the band's break-up emerged.
