It will be noted that Cdnadd, \viiiners
in 1960, did not submlt an entry
in 1962. But there were probably
good reasons for this.
Another important feature of the
success by Australia in 1962 is that
the ,\.in was gained with a record
I\-inning margin and also a record
score under the present points system
oi deciding the winning combination.
As has been previously mentioned,
the Australian Team of 1962 lost
only 37 targets in 3000 and dropped
only 236 points in a poss~ble 9000
INCORRECT DECISIONS. Recently
two reports were received by
the Association ....................... of incorrect d~ri~inns
given by official referees. In the cases
referred to. one shooter usincz an
under-and-over gun and the othzr an
automatic, claimed misfires. The
referees concerned took over +he
guns in each instance, placed then,
to the shoulder and pulled the trigger.
In each case the gun fired, and
in each case the referee gave the
shooter another target. These decisions
were completely wrong and
it was wondered by other shooters
present that no one protested on the
referee's ruling. What apparently
happened was that the shooters, in
each case, froze on the trigger and
then claimed their guns would not
fire. Official referees should make
very certain that they have a complete
knowledge of the Rules.
Occasionally statements are mad;
that rifle shooting slows a shooter
is detrimental to the rifle shooter,
or that seldom is anyone capable of
excelling with both types of weapons;
This may be tiue, or otherwise, on
account of physical 'make-up:
certain individuals have an aptitude
with weapons depends to a marked
Apparently a good time was had
by all at the recent St. George Club
two-day shoot in Western Queens-
land. Reports to hand indicate that
the shooting was excellent, the traps
very fast, and John Raleigh proved
the best of a bia field. President of
St. George Club; Boyce Siddins, and
Mrs. S~ddins entertained all the vim-
tors that could be found at a dinner
at the Australia Hotel in St. George
prior to the opening of shooting.
A Calcutta run by the club is re-
ported to be one of the best ever,
with a gross of over .£1,000 being
realised. A duck shoot on Boyce
Siddins' property at "Lower Plains"
completed an excellent weelc-end of
entertainment for all who ventured
so far west. St. George Club, as a
matter of interest, was the first club
outside Victoria to affiliate with the
A.C.T.A., or the A.C.P.T.S.A. as it
was then known.
A new club is likely to be formed
at Mirani, near Maclcay in North
Queensland. A few enthusiasts have
banded together and approached the
A.C.T.A. regarding future develop-
ment. C. J. George, of Mirani, via
September 15 and 16. Shootine will ing of ordinary flies. The book instirt
on the opening date at 1~~30"~.~~; dicates that a pair of flies beginning
when the Adelaide Plains D.B. title operations in the spring might be the
progenitors, if all were to live, of
191,010,000,000,000,000,000 flies by
mid-summer. Allowing one-eighth of
a cubic inch per fly, this number
would cover the earth forty-seven
feet deep!
I was third with 98 firsts and two
I am just back from Blenheim, a
province up north. I was lucky to
win the Sparrows and Single Rise
Provincial Championships. One has
got to have the luck as well as shoot
a bit to win at clay bird shooting.
We have had wonderful weather
since I came back. We have never
had a better autumn for many years.
We have plenty of feed and the stock
1s looking real well everywhere.
I was up staying with Ron Brown
last week-end, and he says he may
get over for your National Champion-
come with him if he goes, so you
never know, \x7e may turn up. We
certainly enjoy ourselves with yon
Well, John, I don't think that there
Clay Target Shooting News.
Dear Sir,
There has been conjecture for some
time on the comparative standards of
Skeet shooting in New Zealand and
Anstmlla. It may therefore he of
interest to readers to know that a
telegraphic match was shot between
the Auckland (N.Z.) club and the
Australian (V.) club on Saturday,
16/7/62.
Each club Was represented by two
teams who each shot at 260 birds.
The match resulted in a tie between
the two No. 1 teams, each club shooting
233/250; however, Auckland No.
2 team lead Aust. (V.) No. 2 team
by 231 to 217.
These scores were somewhat lower
than expected, as club performances
are usually higher than those above;
however, tension probably played a
nart. -
Of course, the Auckland teams
were not drawn from the whole of
N.Z. just as the Aust. (V.) teams
were- only drawn from a sector of
Aust.; however, it would appear that
present Australian Slreet standards
ale comparable with those in N.Z.
