Despite being one of the most iconic rom-com Queens of our time, Meg Ryan has kept a lot of her personal romances out of the public eye. with her return to the spotlight in 2023, everyone has been wondering a few things: where has Ryan been? Does she have someone new in her life? And how does she feel about her accidentally, highly publicized past relationships?
While we don’t know all the answers, we can tell you that Ryan has had a topsy-turvy love life ever since she came into the public eye in the 1980s. But fast forward to 2023, and she’s single, reflective about romance, and ready for her next era.
In a previous interview with NPR, Ryan talked about what romance means to her, personally. “I just don’t know how to answer that question. I mean, I think love stories are pretty much mostly about obstacles,” the Sleepless in Seattle star said. And in this case, these are two people whose natures are the obstacle. And I think what’s also interesting about them is exactly what they love about each other is exactly why they broke up. And I think that’s a very common thing.”

Dennis Quaid: 1987-2001

After nearly a decade of marriage, their relationship came to an end in 2000 amid allegations of infidelity on both sides. Throughout their time together, both claimed it was a rocky marriage, but Quiaid told W via the Irish Examiner that the split felt like “death” to him.
“I got through shock. Depression. Anger. All the rest of that stuff,” he said. “When you break up, your whole identity is shattered. That’s why it is like death. It is death.”
Ryan also reflected on how the publicized divorce affected her, telling the New York Times: “It’s a real gift when you know you can’t ever really manage an image or a story and you stop caring. I felt the effect, like I was the bad guy or whatever the story was. But I remember letting go of needing to correct anybody. Divorce is hard. Love is hard. All those things were so personal.”
