Kristine Goins, MD, is a board certified psychiatrist who treats children, adolescents, and adults with mood, anxiety, and behavioral disorders. Culturally attuned and down to earth, Dr. Goins has a unique approach to mental health that is integrative, holistic, and family-centered. She puts patients of all ages at ease with her empathetic, caring demeanor and quickly develops rapport with young patients. Truly collaborative in treatment planning, Dr. Goins combines her medical knowledge with alternative and complementary approaches to healing, including yoga, nutrition, exercise, & mindfulness.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Goins specializes in treating children, adolescents and adults with mood and anxiety disorders, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Highly regarded for her diagnostic skills, Dr. Goins prescribes medication when appropriate and uses supportive psychotherapy with all patients for whom she provides medication management. Her goal is to help each individual reduce emotional distress, maintain or improve self-esteem, and reinforce healthy behaviors. For the parents of children and adolescents, Dr. Goins offers sensitivity, guidance and hope while responding to their individual needs and concerns.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Goins is board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at Emory University and her child/adolescent psychiatry residency at Yale, where she served as chief fellow. Passionate about community and school-based psychiatry, Dr. Goins also works with underserved populations in DC schools and at a community mental health nonprofit. Additionally, she serves as a faculty member at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. A member of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), she received a rising star leadership award at the 2019 ADAA conference. She is a certified yoga instructor (RYT 200), and is able to incorporate yoga and other mindfulness-based therapies into her work with patients and their families.

Dr. Goins exclusively provides virtual treatment using a HIPAA compliant telemedicine platform.
