What Are 7 Chakras Of Our Body And Why Is It Important To Balance Them?

The chakras are referred to as energy points of our body. They are believed to be spinning wheels of energy which are supposed to be open and aligned for our mental and physical well-being.

To understand what exactly the 7 chakras are and why it is important to balance these chakras, OnlyMyHealth interacted with Dr Savneet Kaur Bhasin, Mental Health Therapist, Mumbai.

What Are The 7 Chakras?

The 7 chakras are energy centers within our bodies, originating from ancient Indian spiritual traditions. Each chakra is believed to correspond to different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. They start from the base of the spine and travel up to the crown of the head, each symbolizing a unique energy.

How Does Each Chakra Balance Your Mind And Body?

Our human body has 7 main chakras and each one of them correlates to a part of the human body. These chakras align the energetic channels of the body with physical channels which creates a balance between the two. The chakras start from the base of your spine and continue all the way up to the crown. Dr Kaur helped us list down the chakras and where they are located.

Chakra

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Located at the base of the spine, it grounds us to the earth and fosters feelings of stability and security.

2. Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)

Found in the lower abdomen, it governs creativity, passion, and emotional balance.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

Situated in the upper abdomen, it influences our confidence, self-esteem, and personal power.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Positioned in the center of the chest, it promotes love, compassion, and emotional healing.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Located in the throat, it governs communication, self-expression, and speaking one's truth.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Situated between the eyebrows, it enhances intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Crown chakra is at the top of the head and it connects us to the divine and fosters spiritual enlightenment.

What Happens When Chakras Are Imbalanced?

To ensure the well-being of our physical and mental health, it is of utmost importance to maintain a balance of these 7 chakras. Dr Kaur said, “When any of the chakras are imbalanced, it can manifest as physical, emotional, or mental issues. For example, a blocked root chakra may lead to feelings of insecurity or financial instability, while an overactive throat chakra could result in difficulty expressing oneself or speaking untruths.”

How To Balance Chakras?

According to Dr Kaur, balancing chakras involves various practices such as meditation, yoga, Reiki, sound therapy, and energy healing. Engaging in activities that resonate with each chakra can help restore balance and harmony to the mind, body, and spirit.

Concluding, she said, “As a practitioner of holistic wellness and a firm believer in guided meditation, I have experienced firsthand the profound effects of balancing chakras. Through focused breathing and visualization techniques, I've felt a sense of inner peace and alignment with my true self.”

Adding, Dr Kaur said, “Incorporating Reiki sessions and Angel Healing Therapy into my routine has helped me release stagnant energy and promote overall well-being. By nurturing each chakra, I've found myself more grounded, centered, and connected to the world around me.”
