Just days after two back-to-back bomb threats at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, two American tourists were apprehended on Monday morning, August 14, after they spent the night on the UNESCO World Heritage site. Authorities who had to rescue the visitors said the two men appeared to have gotten stuck while being drunk.

Two American tourists in Paris are likely to never forget their adventures in the city of love, especially atop the world-famous Eiffel Tower. All the international news about their ridiculous story will not let them forget the incident either. Perhaps the two miscreants should have just kept to drunk dialling their exes instead of spending the night on the Eiffel Tower.

What happened?

  • On Monday morning, the 19th-century Eiffel Tower opened to tourists late because of two men.
  • Authorities found the two American tourists sleeping in an area of the tower which is usually closed to public, between the second and the third levels.
  • Turns out, the two men spent the night there. In case you are wondering if you can spend a night on the Eiffel Tower -- NO, you cannot.

  • The men appeared to have got "stuck because of how drunk they were", Paris prosecutors told AFP
  • Apparently, the two had gotten a ticket for the tourist attraction at 10.40 pm on Sunday, August 13.
  • While returning down, they hopped security barriers to enter a closed-off area.
  • According to authorities, the men weren't able to get back down in their inebriated state and wound up spending the night there. Authorities also found that they "did not pose any apparent threat".
  • A team of firefighters and specialists had to rescue the individuals from the dangerous height.
  • The company that operates the Eiffel Tower, Sete, said they will file a criminal complaint against the two.
  • The miscreants were then taken to a police station for questioning.
