Lebron James is an All-Star for the 20th time
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (WOIO) - NBA superstar Lebron James has broken yet another record, becoming the first 20-time All-Star in NBA history.
James breaks the record that was previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was a 19-time selection.
James will captain the West squad, along with: Phoenix’s Kevin Durant, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Dallas’ Luka Doncic and Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Eastern Conference team is led by Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo who is joined by: Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton and his Milwaukee teammate Damian Lillard.
James, is averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists for the Los Angeles Lakers in his 21st NBA season.
“Very blessed to be able to do what I love to do and just try to give back to the game that’s given to me over two decades,” James said in a postgame press conference on Thursday night. “So, to be able to know this is the first time ever in NBA history to have this many All-Star starts or whatever the case might be, it’s very cool.”
The All-Star starters are voted on by fans, players and a panel of writers and broadcasters who cover the NBA. The fan vote counts for 50% with players and the panel each making up 25% a piece.
The reserves are chosen by the league’s head coaches and will be announced on February 1.
This year’s All-Star game will be held on Feb. 18 in Indianapolis.
