“Macarena,” the Latin chart-topping one-hit-wonder Los del Río, and romantic singer-songwriter José Luis Perales’ “Y Cómo Es Él” are among the songs in a catalogue of contemporary pop from Spain that has been acquired by BMG Berlstelsmann.
“Our investment in these classics of Spanish-language music is a reflection of our long-term commitment both to the Spanish and Latin American markets and to creating a truly international music company,” BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said in a statement.
Spain’s media conglomerate Prisa sold the publishing rights to the cache of songs consisting of a virtual Spanish hit parade.
They include Raphael’s “Te Amo,” “A Quién Le Importa,” by Alaska, Miguel Ríos’ “Bienvenidos,” “Lobo Hombre en París” by La Unión, Sergio Dalama’s “Bailar Pegados” and Antonio Orozco’s “Devuelvame la Vida.” The songs were previously owned by Prisa companies Nova and Lirics & Music.
