Muhittin Selamet (1943-2016) Antalya, Turkey
His interest in the art of painting started at a young age. He graduated from Government’s Functional Faculty of Fine Arts Academy– Painting Department (today’s University of Marmara) in 1969.
He opened his first solo exhibition at Taksim Art Gallery in Istanbul, in 1978. He has held 19 personal exhibitions throughout his life and continued his work at his private workshop in Antalya until he lost his life in 2016. His paintings are based on the manifestation of hallucinations based on the complex subconscious data of human nature, between fantasy and observation.
Muhittin Selamet says about his works:
“Our age is experiencing the bottom-up of values at an unprecedented rate. Mankind is in search of self in a confused, timid, mechanized life against the limitless productivity of the mind, in a struggle to place oneself. My works are loaded with various signs and narrations, but this is not narrative. It is the orientation of the outcome, which is about to begin or finished, in a complex, mysterious way; so my human figures, gradually all my construction is not fun. It is mortal, can be hurt, and that is what I am interested in. The resonance of a spirit."
