Her sister Maria is also a famous dancer. She is of Indian descent and has their nobility and vitality. Miss Tallchief started her classic training with Bronislav Nijinsky at Los Angeles and worked also with David Lichine. At a very young age she was engaged by the ballet company of America and then by the Russian Company of Colonel De Basil. The Marquis De Cuevas discovered her in New York in 1947 and invited her to join his ballet as star dancer.
