NEWARK, N.J. – Fifteenth-ranked Vermont (8-2-2, 2-1 AE) suffered its second loss of the season, falling 1-0 to NJIT (5-4-3, 2-0-1 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Lubetkin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts and Highlanders played a scoreless opening half, with NJIT owning a 3-2 edge in shots. Jacob Vitale had both shots for Vermont in the frame, coming in the first 12 minutes of the contest.
- NJIT tested Owen Jack (3 saves) later in the half with shots from Hugo Tavares and Enrique Mutsoli that were swallowed up by the UVM goalkeeper. Jack denied a late attempt from the Highlanders in the final minutes of the half when he leaped up to intercept a cross that was intended for Enrique Mutsoli.
- UVM's first scoring chance of the afternoon came in the 50th minute when Niels Hartman delivered a ball to Carter Johnson who's shot from just outside the right post was denied by Samuel Reisgys (1 saves).
- Alvaro Heredia broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute when he capitalized on a bouncing ball inside the 18-yard box to put the Highlanders up 1-0. Jordi Navio Sanchez fired the initial shot that ricocheted towards Heredia.
- The Catamounts had four shots over the remainder of the game in search of the equalizer. Max Murray had a chance in the 83rd minute when his header missed wide of the left post. Vermont pressured in the final minute, testing the NJIT defense, but was unable to notch the tying goal.

- Vermont held an 8-6 advantage in shots, with six of its shots coming in the second half. Johnson, Vitale, and Sebastian Gebhart each led the Cats with two shots.
