Main quest, secondary quests and additional quests

The world of NosTale is currently separated into six acts, each with its own story. Diverse landscapes, uncountable monster variants and difficult missions will challenge your skills.

These acts are represented in the main quest that stretches across the entire playtime. It begins with Act 1, episode 1 (Act 1-1). To complete an episode in an Act, the Hero mission must also be successfully completed.

You can obtain secondary quests through Sound Flowers that you will receive either at the end of a time-space or from defeated monsters. Secondary quests tend to contain collection or hunting quests. They are independent of the main quest and you can start five of them at the same time.

You can also accept special quests to receive Specialist Cards. For these, you have to search for the Mysterious Soulstones that can be found on general maps. These tasks are particularly challenging and time-consuming.

What are Time-Spaces?

An important component of the main quest are the time-spaces (TS). You have to complete these to progress in the main quest. A time-space consists of multiple, connected maps and can be entered via a time-space stone. You can enter them in a group or on your own, although some time-spaces can only be entered alone. As soon as you start the mission, you have to hurry - all time-spaces have a time limit. You will also only have a certain amount of health, so be careful that you don't die - otherwise the mission will fail. Don't worry though, you can repeat them as often as you want.

For Hero missions you have to enter a Hero time-space. The first time-space can be entered from level five. Time-space stones that are unfinished (see different types of time-spaces) are displayed on the map as blue; completed ones are displayed as green. Hero missions are purple. After completion of a time-space you can receive cool items, armour, gold, reputation and dignity.

There are different types of Time-Spaces:
  • Normal Time-Space Stones: They will be displayed on the minimap. You have to complete these in consecutive order, for you to progress in the main quest.
  • Instant Time-Space Stones (Stones with a Q): You will get these with certain quests (for example, on quests for Specialist Cards or on a time-space for the raid seal). When you click the stone in your inventory, you will be transported directly to the time-space. As soon as the quest is completed, the stone will disappear.
  • Hidden Time-Space Stones: They can only be found with Dowsing Sticks (available from Malcolm Mix in NosVille). In addition, you will require certain materials and a time-space piece to create the stone. NosTale has various time-space pieces which hold various missions in store. You can collect rare materials from time-space (group), get hold of raid seals in time-space (raid) or also level up in the hunting or individual time-spaces. Even for the main quest, you will have to find hidden time-spaces!
Skills, Character Classes and Specialists

Skills

In NosTale there are basic or passive skills, combat or active skills and additional skills. They can be learned from Calvin Coach in Nosville, Doggo in Krem and Alfred Erudio in Port Alveus.

Passive Skills increase your passive abilities like HP/MP, defence, attack, recovery etc. They do not need to be applied separately. To learn them, you need the corresponding combat level and gold. The basic skills have 4 levels: Beginner, low, intermediate and advanced. A low level is not a requirement for a more advanced level.

Active or Combat Skills require gold, a particular job level and CP. For every job level you receive 2 CP. To use combat skills, simply drag them into your quick slot and double click on them or use the quick slot hotkey.

Additional skills improve your combat skills or give them special abilities like an increased range. They require, as with combat skills, a particular job level, gold and CP. Every skill can have up to 4 additional skills, however only with 1 additional skill for every symbol.

Character Classes

Every player starts the game as an adventurer. When the player has reached a combat level of 15 and a job level of 20, he can change jobs and specialise in a particular combat direction.

When the required level has been reached, the message 'You can apply for retraining in NosVille' will appear in the server window. Afterwards you can change your job in NosVille at Mimi Mentor's and at Lucia's at Port Alveus Market.

If the player wants to change jobs, he has to take off his armour (all armour items that are labelled with 'only adventurers') before talking to the NPC. After changing jobs, his armour will automatically be replaced with job-appropriate armour.

You can decide between 3 character classes:
  • Sword fighters: Equipped with deadly blades, this brave warrior fights for honour and justice. He has been trained in close- as well as in long-range combat and can use the power of the elements to his advantage. His high defence and incredible will to live means that he can take on several opponents at the same time.
  • Archers: As quick as a fox and with eagle eyes, the archer fights in the name of nature. Even though he may appear cold-hearted and distanced, he has an endless amount of knowledge that he puts to good use.
  • Magicians: A magician can see past a human's horizon, sometimes even into other worlds and dimensions. He knows about the powers of nature and how to handle them. He is also warm-hearted and cooperative, which is why he has so many magic points. He uses amazing magic attacks and fascinates people with his mystical weapons with which he can heal or even curse people.

Specialists
A specialist is a special character with which you can transform with the help of a card. You can get special elemental skills with the specialist. The specialist inherits your original character's power and combat experience. Specialists automatically receive skills after reaching particular job levels. Depending on the type of specialist, your character uses the main or secondary weapon.

You can get a specialist quest from a mysterious soul gem. Click on the stone and you will end up inside it. You can accept the quest there and repeat it as many times as you like. A completed quest is rewarded with a specialist card.

There are currently 8 different class specialist cards for each of the 3 character classes. There are certain conditions for each one (level, job level and reputation). In order of level:
  • Specialists Cards for Sword fighters: Warrior, Ninja, Crusader, Berserker, Gladiator, Battle Monk, Death Reaper, Renegade.
  • Specialists Cards for Archers: Ranger, Assassin, Destroyer, Wild Keeper, Fire Cannoneer, Scout, Demon Hunter, Avenging Angel.
  • Specialists Cards for Magicians: Red Magician, Holy Mage, Blue Magician, Dark Gunner, Volcano, Tide Lord, Seer, Archmage.

In addition to the class specialists, NosTale also has other specialist cards. You can get them by successfully completing a quest or a raid: Chicken Specialist Card, Pirate Specialist Card, Pyjama Specialist Card, Jajamaru Specialist Card. There are also multiple Specialist Cards for Partners.

NosMates

In NosTale there are pets and partners that actively assist you in battle. These companions are known as NosMates.

Pets

You have to first capture a pet for it to accompany you on your adventures. This will not work on all the creatures that you face in the world of NosTale.

Capture wild animals
  • Check to see whether the monster can be caught and select it. The character must be at least one level higher than the monster.
  • Fight the monster until its health is coloured yellow.
  • Attempt to capture the monster by using the 'capture' skill.
  • If it fails, you will have to wait until the cooldown for the skill finishes.

You can own up to ten, or with the pet slot expansion, up to 30 pets. You can only select a pet in your miniland. To take it with you, click on [Company].

Improve pet: Just like your character your pet also receives experience when you defeat monsters. Their level also increases. On top of this, there is also special food that you can use to increase their level. If you want to increase the attack or defence level of your pet, you will need a pet trainer. You can get these from Eva Energy and then you can use them in your miniland. Your pet can also steadily further develop through training battles, however not all training units lead to an improvement.

Partners

Partners also accompany you on your travels, but you cannot capture them. They join you voluntarily. They are in-game characters that you meet whilst on your missions. You can have up to three partners. To select a partner, go to your miniland and click on [Company].

Improve Partner: Your partner can also receive experience and increase in level by defeating monsters. With special food you can additionally increase their level. Unlike pets, partners are capable of using items such as weapons, armour, shoes or gloves. Weapons and armour must however be converted by Teoman Topp before a partner can use them. The attributes will remain the same after the conversion. However, you should make sure that the equipment suits the fighting style (close combat, range combat or magic) that your partner uses.

Trading

Exchange

To exchange items or gold with other players, click on the player and select the 'exchange' option. After they accept the exchange request, the transfer window will open. Both players then drag the items into the window and enter the gold amount that the other participant will receive (for the exchange of a certain amount of one item, drag whilst holding down the [Ctrl] key!). Once complete, click on 'registered' to show the other player your offer. If it doesn't look like the deal you discussed, you can still cancel. When both players are in agreement and then click on 'trade', the exchange is complete and no longer reversible.

Opening a private shop

To sell items that you no longer want, you can make use of your private shop, where other players can buy them. To open a shop, you have to go to the commercial map, specifically the marketplace in NosVille or at Port Alveus Market. Open the skills menu ([K]), double click on the 'open shop' symbol. Enter a name for your shop and enter the desired items from your inventory into the shop window (for the exchange of a certain amount of one item, drag whilst holding down the [Ctrl] key!). Check that everything is correct and click on 'open' to finish the process. Your profits/sales will be displayed at the bottom of the shop window.

NosBazaar

The NosBazaar will sell your goods to other players for you, when you set your items in it. To help you with the first steps, find Bibi Basar at Port Alveus Square, in Desert Eagle City, Glacernon Citadel and in the commercial map areas.
Families, Groups and Social

Family System

Guilds are known as families in NosTale. They can have up to 100 members. You can form a family with a minimum of two other players. As founder, you will be made the familyhead and will have the most control. The other two will be called familydeputy. You can name as many family members as you wish to become familykeepers. Their powers will be designated by you.

To found a family, give it a name or to delete one, visit Mimi Mentor in NosVille or Lucia in Port Alveus. After a deletion, all members will be family-less for 24 hours, head and deputies have to wait three days to enter a new family.

There are advantages to being a family member: You can enter family raids, you can enter the Rainbow Battle and Land of Death and it comes with your own family chat.

Keep in mind that in order to found a family:
  • All three characters must have selected a profession (no adventurers).
  • All need to have completed the main quest up to Act 1-1.
  • The familyhead must pay 200,000 gold.

Groups

You also have the opportunity to fight in a group of up to three players without having to belong to a family. To do so, select the characters that you would like to invite to the group and click on the [Group] button. The other player will receive a group invitation that he has to accept. If you want to leave the group, use the [Leave] button.

There are advantages to being in a group: You will overcome difficult time-spaces more easily, you will gather required quest items much faster and you will have your own group chat.

Communication with other players

The chat window, which can be opened with [Enter], shows your current conversations. Using the menu options below, you can select in which chat you want to write. The options include: general, whisper, family and group. It is also possible to use commands to carry out direct communication.

For a list of family commands, options and other useful commands, please check our website here[en.nostale.gameforge.com]
Miniland and Minigames

In the Miniland you can create and decorate your very own virtual home, where you can invite friends, celebrate parties or simply enjoy a break from your stressful day-to-day life as a hero.

On top of this, your NosMates and partners are also gathered here.

Construct buildings here, like a residence or warehouse, decorate your garden and enjoy yourself playing some mini games.

You can enter the Miniland from NosVille or Port Alveus. Alternatively you can use a 'bell of sweet home' to get into your Miniland from anywhere you like.
To invite a friend, you can use the command [$invite character name] or set up a signpost. You can buy signposts from Eva Energy. You can also use signposts or your friends list to visit minilands that belong to other players.

There are various mini games that you can set up in your miniland (quarry, saw mill, firing range, fishpond). When another player plays with you and a certain amount of points are reached, you will both receive a reward.

The mini games come in the sizes 'basic', 'good' and 'great'. The basic versions are available from Mimi Mentor in NosVille. To be able to build the good and great mini games, you will need a building recipe and certain materials.
Equipment and Upgrade System

Equipment

There is a huge selection of equipment and useful items available to you in the game. By combining different objects you can achieve certain effects, allowing you to constantly change and improve your character.

Armour
Armour for different level classes can be looted from monsters, earned in Time-Spaces, crafted yourself with the right materials, or earned in raids. Your armour is an important aspect of your character's power, both in attack and defence.

Weapons
You can get weapons in the same ways that you get armour. Additionally, each class can carry a secondary weapon (archers carry daggers, mages carry spell guns, swordsmen carry crossbows).

Shoes and Gloves
Aside from the main armour item, you can also wear shoes and gloves. These provide resistance to certain elements. As the items are not very effective on their own, you should combine them at Malcolm Mix’s (e.g. two gloves with 10% each can be combined to make one glove with 20%).

Jewellery (accessories)
You can receive jewellery in the same way that you receive armour, weapons, shoes and gloves. You can refine them with the cellon item (= giving options). The higher the level the jewellery is, the higher the cellon level will need to be (up to a maximum of level 10).

You should bring your accessories, cellon and a little gold to Soraya Style in NosVille. She adds options at random (should the process fail, only the cellon is deducted from your inventory).

Possible options: HP increase, MP increase, Damage from critical hits is reduced, HP/MP recovery improved and more. The options are only active as long as the jewellery is worn.

Fairies
Four elements play a large role with fairies: fire, water, light and shadow. The corresponding fairies to each element strengthen your elemental attack when they accompany your character. You can level all fairies until they reach their maximum potential. You can get fairies on quests and in the NosMall.

An example: a levelled fairy with 40% inflicts 40% more elemental damage on opponents, whereas a fairy with 0% will not inflict any damage.

The overview of all your currently attached items can be found in the character window, which can be opened with the [P] key. Detailed information on an item can be seen by right-clicking.

Upgrade System

The upgrade system offers you lots of ways of reinforcing your equipment, improving you character and making your character prettier. This means that your character might glitter after some armour and weapon upgrades or your specialists can get bigger wings after an enhancement. Methods:

Betting
Betting is only possible with weapons and armour. They have a specific rarity level which determines the strength of the item. The levels range from -2 (damaged) to +7 (legendary). If you want to change the rarity level, you should visit Teodor Topp in NosVille or Arnold Artisan in Port Alveus. You will need 500 Gold and 5 Cella Powder per attempt.

Strengthening
Reinforcements improve your attack or defence. To reinforce an item, you have to visit Teodor Topp in NosVille or Arnold Artisan in Port Alveus. You will need Gold, Cella Powder and Soul Gems to upgrade items.

Refining
Soraya Style is an expert when it comes jewellery. She can insert cellon into your jewellery. Thus the jewellery then receives certain attributes. The maximumoptionlevel specifies the height of the cellon and the maximumoptionnumber determines how much cellon you can insert. If the action fails, the cellon disappears, but the item remains.

Combining
In order to combine items, you have to go to Malcolm Mix in Nosville or to Isaac Artisan in Port Alveus. You can only combine shoes with shoes and gloves with gloves. To do this you need sand from the Dona River and some gold. You can combine an item up to 6 times. But be careful: The higher the combination level becomes, the higher the chance is that it will fail. When combining items resistances are combined and other attributes will be assumed depending on the base item.

Shells

With the help of shells you can add strong attributes to your armour. You can get them in Act4 or from mini bosses.

Rainbow Pearl: In order to identify the shell options, you need rainbow pearls. There are several different types of shells. The higher the rare level and the item level of the shells are, the more powerful they become. However the higher they are, the more rainbow pearls are needed.

Inserting shells: To add a shell to your weapon or armour you need suitable shells, which you can recognise by their weapon/armour prefix on their shell name. Additionally, the level and rare level of the shell cannot be higher than that of the item. If all requirements have been fulfilled, you can attach the shell to your weapon/armour by double clicking on it. Shells that have already been attached cannot be worn by other characters.

Eraser: With the eraser's help you can remove shell options from items. However, the items still remain bound to you!

Perfume: You can bind an item that is already bound to another player to yourself with perfume.
Raids, PvP and PvE

Raids

A raid is a name for a battle against a very strong monster, also known as a boss monster or a raid boss. These battle situations are normally fought by a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 players. Successful completion of a raid is rewarded with a raid box, which may contain valuable items. A raid seal is required to initiate a raid. You have to complete missions in order for the boss room to open. This can happen by defeating monsters or by using levers. But be sure to watch the time limit. As soon as the boss room is open, the raid boss can be fought. If you lose all your lives during the course of the battle, you fail.

Getting a Raid Seal: You have to find the Hidden Time-Space and successfully complete it to receive a raid seal. You will find the Time-Space Piece you need for this by hunting monsters.

Creating a Raid Team: To create a raid team, you need a raid seal. Double-click on the seal and you will be made leader of the raid team (marked blue in the list). Keep an eye on the minimum and maximum levels, as you need to fulfil the requirements to take part. As a raid leader, you can invite and also delete players manually or via the raid list (K).

Starting a Raid: To start a raid, the leader has to enter the raid portal. All team members that are in the entrance room will be teleported onto the raid map or to the raid leader directly with a [stone of team summon] afterwards.

Cancelling or Leaving a Raid: Press the arrow button in the raid information window to cancel or leave a raid.

Raid List: You can use the raid list to invite players to join you in the fight. Open the list via the skill window (K) and click on [Register a team]. In the same way, you can remove the group from the list. If you are looking for a raid team, select one from the list and click [Become a team member] to join.

Special Feature: Act 4 Raids
Four special raids await you here, one for each element (fire, water, light and shadow). These can be entered exclusively by family members. Additionally, the status of your own faction must be at 100% by defeating monsters or players, so that Lord Mukraju appears. He has to be defeated quickly for the raid portal to open. If you are not fast enough, he or the portal will disappear. You will not need a raid seal, rather reputation points which you have to fight for. Which of the four raids you enter is decided at random.

PvP and PvE

There are two types of PvP in Nostale. The first system is a public PvP. Everyone can take part in this system if they want to. In the public PvP there is no player limit. The battle potion allows it to be possible everywhere, in the public arena or in Glacernon. The second system is a closed PvP system, which is carried out in special areas. An example of this is, for instance, Icebreaker or the Rainbow Battle.

As for PvE, alongside the general maps, where PvE is the daily bread, there is also Instant Combat and a PvE event.

Battle Potion
A Battle Potion allows you to activate PvP mode anytime and anywhere. All players that have drunk a Battle Potion can attack each other. You can receive this item by hunting monsters, from Eva Energy in NosVille or from Noelia Rosa in Port Alveus.

Icebreaker
Icebreaker is an event that starts numerous times a day. The battle is separated into various level groups, for example 1 to 15 or 50 to 99. As soon as you click the button, you will be teleported to the map and all players can then be attacked. The goal is to survive until the end to receive reputation and gold. As soon as you have defeated another player, they will be frozen. They can be freed by other players and will then belong to the 'liberator' team. If the player is defeated a second time, then the battle for them is over. You win when only players on your team are present and not frozen.

Rainbow Battle
You can start this battle every three hours at set times. Form a team as a family head or deputy at Titus Trip, which you can then register for the battle. As soon as opponents have been found, you and your team will be teleported to the Rainbow Battle map. Then you have to be quick and think strategically! It isn't about who gets the most kills here, instead it has to do with crystals on the ground that have to be captured, coloured with your team colour and then defended from other players. Each crystal is worth points – the team with the most points wins and receives an additional buff that lasts for three hours.

Glacernon
Glacernon is a PvP island in Act 4, which you can reach by taking a ship from Port Alveus. Families as well as players without families are separated into two groups, which can later be changed with an item. You head into battle as either an Angel or a Demon and fight against the other faction to earn reputation points for the Act 4 raids.

Instant Combat
Instant Combat starts every two hours and is separated into level groups. Your goal is to survive multiple waves of attacking monsters. The waves get increasingly more difficult, until you finally reach the end boss. When the final wave has been defeated, the Instant Combat is complete and you will receive a large sum of gold as a reward. There are also item pick-ups during the pauses between the attacks.

Arenas
  • Normal Arena: You can open the arena via the skills window [K] or from the dialogue with Titus Trip. All level classes are mixed in together.
  • Family arena: In the family arena you fight with your family against other families
  • Arena of Talents: You can register at NPC Jerico. In a team of three, you gith after one another, either for camp Erenia or for camp Zenas.
  • Arena of Masters: You can enter the Arena of Masters by registering with Victoria and by previously winning in the Arena of Talents - this arena is only for the best of the best. The rules are the same; however, this team arena only takes place once a week.

Land of Death
The Land of Death is the go-to location for level-crazy players. This arena can only be entered at certain times during the day and only if you are a family member. There you will meet sinister undead creatures and dangerous monsters that cannot be defeated on your own. After a certain amount of time, the undefeatable Flying Fire Devil will appear and try to hunt you down. If you manage to kill monsters in his vicinity, you will receive a major experience bonus.
NosMall
The item shop in NosTale is called the NosMall. There is a wide range of items available here, which you can acquire by using game-specific currency.

Where can I find the NosMall?

On the interface in the bottom right hand corner, there is a symbol for the NosMall in the shape of a NosDollar. You can open and browse the shop by clicking on it.

How does it work?
After opening the NosMall, you can find items in the different categories or by using the search function. Clicking on the name shows you additional information on item properties or the contents of boxes. To buy, click on the button with the price. You will receive a package that can be found via the quick-slot bar. Open it and place the purchased item in your inventory. To purchase something in the NosMall, you need NosDollars (game-specific currency). You can receive NosDollars by paying a set fee in Euros.

Topping up NosDollars
In the top bar of the NosMall window there is a button that states 'Top up NosDollars'. With a single click, you will arrive in the menu: here you have a selection of how many NosDollars you can buy at which price. Select the payment method, check everything is entered correctly and complete the purchase. Alongside the button to top up, there is also a display showing your available NosDollars.

Trading of items
Most items that you can buy in the NosMall can also be traded, as in, sold on the NosBazaar or exchanged with others. Please note that there are exceptions to this, like the items that you will get from the daily loyalty bonus or the items from the Collector’s Edition Bundles.
