An all time classic. Nothing better than killing Nazis and retaking Paris than with a hardened Irish bloke as the main character. This game has lots of similar features akin to something like Assassin's Creed and GTA mashed together. The story and characters in itself are fine but the gameplay is the addicting part which feels like a mix of the two described earlier. If your looking for a game with a more risque narrative and the occasional one liner or two this is for you and I 100% recommend.

The Saboteur is an action-adventure game set during the early years of WWII. It was the final title released by Pandemic Studios before their unfortunate closure in 2009. The story of Sean Devlin, an Irish mechanic and racer, is as explosive and engaging as one would expect from a GTA-esque game.

Positives:
+ German-occupied France is a fantastic setting for an open-world crime game. Paris is detailed and interesting to explore, while the countryside provides a nice scent of freedom thanks to the lower presence of Nazi officers. To my knowledge there aren't other similar games set there.
+ Liberated and occupied zones are distinctly presented via the clever use of color. Neighborhoods where the Resistance is strong are nice and colorful while the heavily occupied areas are black and white.
+ Freedom of choice during gameplay is always a great thing in open-world games. During most missions players are allowed to use pretty much any weapon and vehicle they want in order to achieve their objective. Stealth mechanics are available for anyone who wants to go the sneaky route. If you prefer guns blazing, get a Terror MG and paint the town red.
+ Decent 1940s soundtrack that goes well with the city of Paris.
+ Nudity toggle for... you know... educational purposes.

Negatives:
- The game suffers from technical issues and incompatibilities with modern computers. There are problems with missing dependencies needed for the Video Settings editor's GUI and a number of other things. While in-game everything is mostly stable, there is lack of Anti-aliasing which can make objects look pixely on higher resolutions.
- The number of free play targets is astronomical. These are different Nazi controlled areas and vehicles which need to be blown up in order to be removed from the map. This will get boring quickly as they are all the same - go there, blow it up, escape. Apart from money they don't grant anything special.

Overall:
Despite its flaws The Saboteur remains a great open-world crime game. One of the last GTA-esque titles ever released. With its unique setting, fun gameplay and great story it's a must play for any fans of this genre. You can get it for as low as $5 on sale so there are no excuses!

Ive played thousands of games across decades. Saboteur is one of the few that can properly be called a "hidden gem". This game just nails the GTA-formula within a period piece.
