Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week Announced (3.11.24)

Loyola Maryland claimed three weekly honors, Lehigh and Navy earned one apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland claimed three of the five Patriot League women’s lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced on Monday. Lehigh and No. 16 Navy received one accolade apiece.
 
Loyola Maryland senior Sydni Black received Patriot League Attacker of the Week after totaling 12 points on nine goals and three assists in the Greyhounds’ wins against Georgetown (17-5) and Towson (16-3). Junior Chase Boyle was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week with 11 points on eight goals and three assists during the Greyhounds’ undefeated week, while junior Lauren Spence collected Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week after posting a .824 save percentage and 2.02 goals-against average (GAA) in two games.
 
Lehigh graduate student Cassie Marte earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. She finished with eight draw controls, four caused turnovers, and two ground balls in the Mountain Hawks’ 11-9 win over American.
 
Navy freshman Mikayla Williams claimed Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after tallying seven points on five goals and two assists to help the Mids split two games, including a 17-9 win over Jacksonville on Saturday.
 
Army West Point sophomores Allison Reilly and Lindsey Serafine, Holy Cross juniors Ella Kittredge and Isabella Miller, Lehigh seniors Hayley Hunt and Olivia Memeger, Loyola Maryland junior Lily Osborne, and Navy junior Emily Messinese and Navy senior Caroline Stefans all collected honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League women’s lacrosse players of the week were selected in a vote by League women’s lacrosse communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
Sydni Black, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Attack, Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day
*Black totaled 12 points on nine goals and three assists while adding seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in Loyola Maryland’s victories against Georgetown (17-5) and Towson (16-3).
*The senior midfielder scored a career-high seven goals, added one assist and five draw controls in the Greyhounds’ 17-5 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.
* On Saturday, she recorded four points on two goals and two assists against the Hoyas. Black also added two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Chase Boyle, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Midfielder, Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional
*Boyle tallied 11 points on eight goals and three assists to go with 22 draw controls in victories against Georgetown (17-5) and Towson (16-3) last week.
*She posted five goals, two assists and 13 draw controls in the Greyhounds’ 16-3 win over the Tigers.
*The junior midfielder finished with four points on three goals and one assist in a win against the Hoyas. She also added nine draw controls.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cassie Marte, Lehigh, Gr., Defender, Collegeville, Pa./Springford
*Marte posted eight draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls to lead Lehigh to an 11-9 victory over American in their League opener on Saturday.
*The Collegeville, Pa. native anchored a defense that held the Eagles to single-digit goals. The Mountain Hawks have held their last four opponents under 10 goals.
*She was instrumental in Lehigh finishing with a .950 clearing percentage against AU.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Spence, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Goalkeeper, Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen
*Spence posted a .824 save percentage and 2.02 goals-against average with 14 saves and three goals allowed in Loyola Maryland’s victories against Georgetown (17-5) and Towson (16-3).
*She made nine saves and allowed one goal in 40 minutes of action against the Hoyas on Wednesday.
*The junior goalkeeper made five saves and allowed two goals in nearly 50 minutes in a win against the Tigers on Saturday.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mikayla Williams, Navy, Fr., Midfielder, Bexley, Ohio/Bexley
*Williams recorded seven points on five goals and two assists to help Navy split two games last week, including a 17-9 win at Jacksonville.
*She finished with three goals, one assist, two caused turnovers and two draw controls in a 17-9 win over the Dolphins on Saturday.
*The freshman midfielder posted two goals, one assist and one ground ball in a loss against Drexel on Wednesday.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Allison Reilly, Army West Point, So., Attack, Sayville, N.Y/Sayville
*Reilly finished with 10 points on seven goals and three assists to help Army West Point split a two-game week. She totaled five goals and two assists in the Black Knights’ 15-4 win against Cal on Wednesday.
 
Lindsey Serafine, Army West Point, So., Goalkeeper, Tabernacle, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy
*Serafine posted a .621 save percentage with a 7.67 goals-against average to help Army West Point go 1-1 last week, including a 15-4 victory over Cal.
 
Ella Kittredge, Holy Cross, Jr., Midfielder, Somers, N.Y./Somers
*Kittredge posted eight points on five goals and three assists last week in addition to four ground balls and two caused turnovers. The junior midfielder posted two goals and two assists in the Crusaders’ 15-13 victory against Colgate in their League opener. She had three goals, one assist, four ground balls and one caused turnover in a 19-6 win vs. Iona.
 
Isabella Miller, Holy Cross, Jr., Attack, North Andover, Mass./Brooks
*Miller totaled 14 points on six goals and eight assists to lead Holy Cross to wins over Iona (19-6) and Colgate (15-13). The junior attacker recorded a career-high with eight points on four goals and four assists against the Gaels on Tuesday. She finished with two goals and four assists in the Crusaders’ League-opening win against the Raiders.  
 
Hayley Hunt, Lehigh, Sr., Goalkeeper, Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter
*Hunt made six saves and picked up three ground balls in Lehigh’s 11-9 victory over American in the Mountain Hawks’ League opener on Saturday. Hunt leads the Patriot League with a .527 save percentage.
 
Olivia Memeger, Lehigh, Sr., Attack, Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven
*Memeger scored a career-high six goals, including three free-position goals, in Lehigh’s 11-9 victory over American in their League opener on Saturday.
 
Lily Osborne, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Defender, Oxford, Md./Easton
*Osborne held both of her individual matchups during the week without a goal, helping Loyola go 2-0 last week with wins against Georgetown (17-5) and Towson (16-3). She picked up two ground balls and caused one turnover vs. the Hoyas and had one caused turnover against the Tigers.  
 
Emily Messinese, Navy, Jr., Midfielder, Manchester, Md./Gerstell Academy
*Messinese totaled eight points on five goals and three assists to go with nine draw controls during Navy’s 1-1 week. She finished with three goals and two assists while winning four draw controls in a 17-9 win over the Dolphins on Saturday.
 
Caroline Stefans, Navy, Sr., Defender, Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas
*Stefans led the Mids with five ground balls and four caused turnovers in two games last week while helping the team convert 33-of-36 clear attempts. She also anchored a defensive unit that held Jacksonville to a single-digit goal total, the sixth opponent this season they have held under 10 goals.
