June 2013

I can’t believe it’s June already. I’ve seen a few collections from some designers for Cruise season. I like Dior, it’s very light and fun, playing with colors, Fendi and Gucci are great too. Versace x JW Anderson is one of my favorite! But anyway, I’m not here to talk about the collection for Cruise season, I want to talk about magazine covers (lmao ok whatever).

So many magazines have good covers this month, but there’s only one that has a very bad cover probably you know which magazine has that. Anyway, I like Karmen Pedaru since the first time I got interested on Fashion, but she never really gets my attention because I think that she’s just a good model. I hadn’t seen her real beauty until I saw her Gucci Cruise 2013 campaign last week. Then, I started to like her more. She is amazing and very beautiful, she’s very Gucci exclusive. Then I was tumblring and I saw KARMEN ON THE COVER OF VOGUE GERMANY. I was screaming, I had a mini heart attack for a few second I guess. She looks perfect!! The cover is a little colorful, playing with yellow, Karmen is wearing a black dress with a gold and diamond necklace, and a flower on her ear. Very Spring/Summer look. When I scrolled down my dashboard, look which model featured on an editorial for Vogue Germany? Yes, my Polish queen Monika Jagaciak aka Jac. Half naked and wet.. I was in tears of happiness and joy. Karmen and Jac? I must have that!! I’m wondering where to buy that in Jakarta since we don’t have a big and complete international book store. Or should I just buy it online? But the shipping fee is expansive (sigh). Then there are other magazines that I’d like to buy but I can’t because I don’t have enough money (lmao teenagers issue). For example, Numero Tokyo with Karolina Kurkova on the cover, Numero France #144 with Sasha Luss on the cover (I started to buy numero like 2 months ago), Dazed & Confused with Daft Punk on the cover (double cover), and there are more. So maybe you could take a look at the pictures below for the magazines I really want (June 2013 issue)!!

Those magazines above are the magazines that I could buy and find it here (exception made for Vogue Germany), but there are more magazines that I want beside those. Magazines that I can’t find it here on Jakarta (sigh).

Karlie Kloss for Vogue Turkey.

I was amazed by Karlie’s cover for Vogue Turkey. She looks so sexy with the cheetah print swimsuit and a leather coat. She is totally amazing. And Doutzen’s cover for Vogue Netherlands? It was actually an editorial of Doutzen on Vogue UK January 2013 issue (I guess), then they re-print it and made it to a cover but I think it’s okay since the picture they chose is good. Not just because of Doutzen Kroes why I want Vogue Netherlands so bad, there are also Karlie Kloss and Karmen Pedaru photographed by Hans Feurer, I like the editorials both Karlie and Karmen look so good. Well there’s actually one more model on that editorial but I couldn’t remember it at the moment. My asian twin Soo Joo rocks Vogue Korea cover she looks amazingly perfect and beautiful. You could easily see all your life goals on her. The editorial of her in it is also great, showing Korean’s most famous martial art, Tae Kwon Do. Soo Joo looks like a cold blooded serial killer, she looks like she’s about to kill you, seriously. And I always want to buy any magazine with Anja Rubik on the cover, she’s an amazing Polish model (same with Kasia Struss and Magdalena Frackowiak). I’m not really interested with the Vogue Paris cover, but I think I’d buy that just for looking through it especially on the campaigns part on the front, and the editorials, since I don’t understand French. What shocked me is… Gisele Bundchen’s Vogue Italia’s cover. She looks really elegant, like a sophisticated business woman. And it was photographed by Steven Meisel. It’s perfect. I prefer Gisele’s Vogue Italia cover by Steven Meisel than her Vogue Brazil’s cover by Mario Testino. Her Vogue Brazil’s cover looks weird, no not Gisele, she isn’t weird at all, the cover looks really weird and..weird. I don’t know how to say it, you better look at it by yourself. But the editorial is great, showing the sexiness of Gisele’s body (thank lord after giving birth to 2 sons her body still look absolutely perfect) and the real beauty of Brazilian supermodel.

Gisele Bundchen for Vogue Brazil (L) and Vogue Italia (R). This is why Vogue Italia makes all other editions of Vogue irrelevant.

Wait before I end this article, one cover that bothers me the most everytime I go to a bookstore:

Kate Upton for Vogue US.

I’m okay with Kate Upton being a plus size model (except when a news anchor, Cenk Uygur compared Julia Nobis to her. I was angry). But Vogue US rarely put models on the cover of their magazine. Before this happened, I was wondering who will be on the cover of Vogue US? If models, I was hoping models like Karlie Kloss, or Gemma Ward (since she took part in The Great Gatsby), or Kate Moss, Lara Stone, anyone that’s famous in the fashion industry (I was hoping that any Russian models would be on the cover of Vogue US but the chance was low, or probably Anja Rubik because she’s successful not just on being a model but also she designed her own collection and she also has her own magazine). But it turns out like… this. Kate Upton. Never put any attention to any plus size model like Kate Upton. I think why Anna Wintour put Kate on the cover is (maybe) because, 1. Kate Upton is an American model, so she’s kind of representing the rest of the American models by being on the cover of Vogue. 2. Kate Upton is on the top of her career as a model. I’m not going to judge her since I don’t know her and never really put my attention on her but her cover for Vogue is shocking and I don’t think she suits any Vogue covers, she probably suits GQ, Esquire, Sports Illustrated. I don’t know she might be a kind or generous or friendly kind of person – which I heard she is, so I’m not judging her for what she is as a person. I’m judging her Vogue cover (?). But sadly I need to admit that Kate Upton’s cover isn’t that bad at all. But still, I’m not buying this issue.

Beside all of those covers above that I want, I’m actually still looking for some old issues, like i-D Pre-Spring 2013 with Kate Moss, Vogue Paris May 2013 with Freja Beha Erichsen, Vogue Paris March 2013 with Suvi Koponen, Numero France March 2013 with Natalia Vodianova, Antidote Magazine: The Street Issue with Monika Jagaciak, Self Service with Lara Stone, Dazed & Confused with Saoirse Ronan, W Magazine with triple cover (Natalia, Lara and Kate Moss), Dazed & Confused June 1998 with Kate Moss, and System Magazine #1 with Nicolas Ghesquiere. I’m also looking for anykind of old Vogue Italia’s covers, especially with Sasha Pivovarova on it (I’d like to buy the one with Supermodels Enter Rehab editorial or the one with Makeup Madness editorial). The only problem is I don’t have enough money to buy them all. I also can’t pay the shipping fee it’s too expansive (why is there no free shipping worldwide?), and I can’t find them in any local international book store. Sigh.
