This information is here to show the settlement of France, current government, and just what exactly brought people to this area. There is one thing to take away from French settlement, and that is the fact that the location of France had eventually brought over so many people because of the fact that it was close to two major bodies of water.
Settlement in France was based upon fur trade and fishing. However, fishing was to a lesser extent than the trading of fur. Fur hats were extremely popular in Europe during the seventeenth century, and made trade with the Native Americans crucial. The French needed the Native Americans to provide the furs while the Native Americans needed the French for European items, such as metal pots. Exporting goods is made easy with the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. A glacier era was present in France, however when the era ended, France became more suitable and livable. As for climate, France has a multitude of different climates. The north part of France has a mild climate along with easy access to water. South East France has a different climate, being so close to the Mediterranean Sea and this climate helps the crop growth here. The west holds tons of rainfall, and the climate usually stays consistent. Traces of life in France travel back to around 1.9 million years ago; going back to the 8th century, Gaul’s were present in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, and Germany, as well as some of the Netherlands. This name was given by the Romans, and the ancient limits of these people were the Rhine River, Alps to the east, Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. Gaul was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 BC. The fall of the Roman Empire lead to changes in power in France where the rule of the Merovingians brought the first kings of France, and France became more populated. The Treaty of Verdun created the boundaries for France, as well as Germany and Italy. Today, the French Republic is a constitutional republic with close to a presidential system. The prime minister is Manuel Valls with Paris being the capital of the country. The current population is 66.03 million and the official language here is French. Also, in the male population there are more men in their 30's than there were in 1950.
