Abstract

A wireless communication network system having one or more location servers (142) for outputting requested locations of commercially available mobile stations (140) based on CDMA, AMPS, NAMPS or TDMA communication standards, for processing both local and global mobile station location requests (140) via, e.g., internet communication (468) between a distributed network of location centers (142). The system uses a plurality of mobile station location technologies including two-way TOA and TDOA; pattern recognition; distributed antenna provisioning; GPS signals; angle of arrival; superresolution enhancements; and supplemental information from various types of base stations.

7. A method for providing a service to a mobile station user, comprising: first determining a wireless location of a first mobile station at a first location; storing identifying information for a place of user interest, wherein said identifying information is at least partially determined from aid wireless location; subsequently, receiving, from the first mobile station at a second location, a request from the user for routing information to the place of user interest; accessing said identifying information for obtaining location information for the place of user interest; second determining routing information for routing the user from the second location to the place of user interest; and outputting the routing information to the first mobile station for routing the user to the place of user interest.
8. The method of Claim 7, wherein said first location is substantially at the place of user interest
9. The method of Claim 7, further including a step of receiving a request for performing said step of first detaamining, wherein said request is transmitted from me first mobile in response to an input to the first mobile station by the user.
10. The method of Claim 7, wherein said place of interest includes one of: a hotel, a restaurant, a shopping area, a scenic area, a rendezvous point, a theatre, an athletic event, a church, an entertainment establishment, and a location of an acquaintance.

The method of Claim 7, wherein said step of storing includes one of: (a) information indicative of a length of time that said identifying information is accessible for routing the user to the place of user interest, and (b) information and (b) information indicative of a geographical area outside of which said identifying information inaccessible for routing the user to the place of user interest. 94

The method of Claim 7, wherein said step of second determining includes modifying first route information representing a first route to the place of user interest to obtain said routing information representing a second route to the place of user interest, wherein said second route incorporates a detour to the place of user interest.
13. The method of Claim 7, wherein said first determining step includes transmitting a request for wirelessly locating the first mobile station to a wireless location gateway.
14. The method of Claim 7, wherein said step of second deterrnining includes performing a wireless location of the first mobile station at the second location.
15. A method for providing a service to a mobile station user, comprising: obtaining consent for an entity different from a user of a mobile station to access wireless location information obtained from one or more wireless locations of the mobile station, wherein said consent is provided by the user of the mobile station for accessing said wireless location information during a first predetermined time period and wherein said access is restricted during a second predetermined time period; providing access to an instance of the mobile station location related information by the entity during the first predetermined time period; and restricting access to the mobile station location related information by the entity during the second predetermined time period.

The metho<i of Claim 15, wherein said first and second time periods are included in an access schedule accessible by a network service control point, wherein said access schedule is used for c^termining when to request a wireless location of the mobile station to be performed for providing an instance of said wireless location information to the entity. 95
17. The method of Claim 15, wherein said providing step includes requesting one or more wireless locations of the mobile station wherein said wireless locations are provided by a wireless location gateway.
18. A method for communicating product or service information, comprising: receiving a wireless location of a mobile station; accessing first information specific to the mobile station for determining wireless communication capabilities of the mobile station; accessing second information for a user of the mobile station for determining user preferences for wireless communication between the mobile station and the information exchange service; accessing one or more user provided descriptions, wherein each said description includes data for identifying a corresponding product or service desired by the user; accessing user preferences related to product or service information content for presentation at the mobile station, including criteria dependent upon one or more of: a distance of travel by the user for obtaining a desired product or service, a direction of travel by the user, and an expected elapsed time of travel by the user for obtaining a desired product or service; accessing merchant information for identifying one or more merchants having a first product or service identified by a first of said descriptions; deteπniniπg, using said wireless location, a first of the merchants having a first location sufficiently satisfying said criteria for the first product or service; deteπnining purchasing information related to purchasing the first product or service from the first merchant, wherein said purchasing information includes information for assisting the user in proceeding to the first location, wherein ; determining a presentation of said purchasing information for transmitting to the mobile station, said presentation deteπnined according to said first information and said second information; transmitting said presentation to flic mobile station; wherein two or more of: 96
(a) at least one of: said descriptions and said user preferences include data indicative of preferring one merchant over another;
(b) a portion of said descriptions and said user preferences are provided to at least one of the merchants; and
(c) said step of accessing merchant' information includes a step of deterrniπing a collection of merchants, each having a location within a predetermined geographical area of the wireless location.
19. The method of Claim 18, wherein said step of receiving includes transmitting a request for said wireless location to a wireless location gateway for determining said wireless location using one or more wireless location techniques without said request providing all informarion required for performing said one or more wireless location techniques.
