COMBINATION SLEEPING-ROBE.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that we, FREDERICK E. Bis- SELL and PETER K. KARBERG, citizens of the United States, residing at Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Sleeping-Robes, of which the following is a specificatlon.

Our invention has'relation to combinatlon sleeping robes with special reference to means for removing the feet without removal of the whole garment from the person.-

It consists in a front member and a back member united together except a short portion of the back member which is left free and in a free extension of the heel at its upper end with means for removably fastening the free extension about the two members whereby when the free end of the heel extension is unfastened the wearer can remove his foot from the robe.

A detail description of the manner of manufacture and mode of use will be set out in the following specificatibn and accompanying drawings forming a part hereof.

Having reference to the drawings 2 designates the body of the garment, 1 the arms and 5 the legs. The front member of the robe is made of a single piece extending from the collar 6 to the end of the foot or toe 8. Therear member 10 of the robe is out off near the ankle leaving a flap 12 that is not united to the front member.

To the foot part 8 of the front is secured a tread 15 extending back to the heel.

The heel 16 is preferably formed of a single piece, as shown in'Fi-g. '5 having the two sides and top flaps 18 and the bottom or heel proper 20. The two lower edges 22 and 24 sewed together and the sides 25 and 26 sewed to the sides of the foot. The

flaps 18 are stitched to the front member 5 at the foot of the garment. The top edge 30 is also hemmed. To the opposite upper corners are attached straps 32 which the upper parts of the flaps are fastened around the ankle inclosing the flap 12 of the rear member of the garment and tied across the front member 5 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.

I11 Fig. 6 the heel proper'QO ismade part of the foot and the flaps 18 are stitched to the upper part of the heel; it being immaterial whether the foot is first formed and the flaps are then attached, or whether the heel and flaps are formed in one piece and then sewed to the foot as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the object being to provide an extension on the heel that covers the flap 12 of the rear member and then removably fasten the flaps 18 about the flap 12 at or near the ankle, so that when the flaps are unfastened'they drop down and the wearer is able to withdraw his foot from the opening beneath the rear member.

In Fig. 4 is shown a different mode of fastening the flaps 18 around the ankle. This consists of eyelets 35 secured in the front 5 on both sides and buttons 36 adapted to engage the eyelets. It is manifest that there may be numerous modes of fastening the heel around the ankle without departing from the spirit of our invention.

It will be observed that by making the rear member shorter than the'front member and leaving the portion 12 free and by providing the free flaps at the upper part of the heel, the foot of the wearer can be readily withdrawn by simply unfastening the flaps 18. v

Having now described our invention whatv we claim is:

1. In a device of the character described, a front member, a rear member secured to the front member and provided with a free lower end, a foot attached to the front member, an extension at the upper portion of the heel portion of the foot, and means for removably securing the upper part of the extension.

2. In a device of the character described, a front member, a rear member 'shorter than the front member, a foot, an extension for the upper part of the heel portion of the foot, and means'for removably. securing the extension of the heel aboutthe rear member.

3. In a device of the character described, a

front member, a rear member secured to the front member and provided with a free flap at its lower end, a foot portion secured to the front member, a heel portion brovided with free extension flaps, and means for removably fastening the extension flaps to the front member about the rear member.

4:. In a device of the character described, a front member, a rear member secured to the front member and having free ends atthe lower end, feet having their upper parts integral with the front member and their treads secured to the front member, heels secured to the treads and to the front member and free at their upper ends, and means for removably securing their free ends about the front and rear members.

5. lln a device of the character described, a combination garment having legs and feet, a front member, a foot secured to the front member, a rear member secured to the front member and shorter than the front member with a free lower-end, a heel secured at its lower end to the foot and provided with flaps at its upper end, and means for removably securing the [laps of the heel t0 the leg of the garment.
